Paul played professionally for Yorkshire CCC, Sussex CCC, Middlesex CCC and England 'A' as a left arm pace bowler. Winning the County Championship twice (YCCC: 2001, SCCC 2003).
At 18 years old, Paul was selected in a Test Trial, playing for 'Rest of England' vs England 'A'.
Paul had been earmarked as a future England player, unfortunately a series of back injuries and subsequent bowling action changes meant he could not quite return to his early career performances and retired from the professional game at 28.
Paul played in all three formats of the professional game; First Class, List A and T20 changing how he bowled to reflect the match format.
Learning from his team-mates Chris Silverwood, Darren Gough & Craig White, Paul developed 'white ball' skills; swinging the new ball, middle overs slower balls and 'Yorkers' when bowling at the death.
Paul is an experienced full time professional cricket coach, coaching from grass roots cricket all the way through to International Test Match cricket.
Coaching in schools, club cricket and the professional game has allowed Paul to gain a wide range of skills that allow him to connect with and assist all ages and levels to develop their game.
Paul was part of the coaching staff when Essex CCC won 'The Double' in 2019.
In June 2022 Paul joined Denmark Cricket as Assistant Coach (bowling specialist) and helped them win the ICC European T20 tournament in Belgium. A 50 over tournament in Toronto, Canada followed and Paul stepped up to Acting Head Coach due to a visa complication which stopped the regular Head Coach from travelling. Denmark won 4 out of 5 matches, which they haven't achieved previously.
